Single-wall pipe becomes extremely hot during use and cannot be used alone for roof exits through combustible structures. It requires at least 18 inches of clearance from any combustible material and can cause a fire if improperly installed.
It may be used as part of a proper roof exit system when combined with insulated double-wall pipe and when all 18-inch clearances from combustibles are maintained.
Single-wall pipe may also be used alone only in:
Tents with a stove jack rated for single-wall pipe
Completely non-combustible structures, such as an unfinished shipping container
